Spacebar Counter and Speed Test
Count spacebar presses and measure your spacebar speed.
What does Spacebar Counter do?
Count how many times you can hit the spacebar, either as a free-running counter or as a timed speed test. It reports presses per second alongside the raw count, which is what the spacebar challenge actually compares, and ignores the auto-repeat your keyboard sends while a key is held.
How to Use Spacebar Counter
- 1Choose a modeFree counter, or a timed speed test.
- 2Press the spacebarThe first press starts the clock in timed mode.
- 3Read the resultTotal presses, presses per second and your best score.
Key Features

- Timed modes of 5, 10, 30 and 60 seconds with presses per second
- Counts key-down events, so holding the key does not inflate the score

Frequently Asked Questions
How many times can you press the spacebar in 10 seconds?
Most people manage 40 to 60 presses in ten seconds, which is 4 to 6 per second. Above 70 is quick, and consistently above 90 usually means alternating hands or drumming with two fingers.
Does holding the spacebar count as multiple presses?
No. The counter listens for the key going down and ignores the auto-repeat your operating system generates while a key is held, so only real presses count.
Why does my keyboard miss presses at high speed?
Membrane keyboards debounce each key for several milliseconds and can drop presses that arrive faster than that. Mechanical keyboards with a shorter debounce window register more of them.
Can I use this on a phone?
Yes. There is a large tap pad that counts taps the same way, since phone keyboards do not expose a physical spacebar to the page unless a text field is focused.
