Frequently Asked Questions

How is age calculated exactly?

The calculator counts complete calendar years first, then complete months, then the leftover days. That is the same method used on official forms, so 15 March 2000 to 14 March 2026 is 25 years, 11 months and 30 days — not yet 26.

What happens with a 29 February birthday?

In a leap year the birthday falls on 29 February. In a common year the calculator treats 1 March as the birthday, which is the convention most legal systems use for age of majority.

Does my time zone affect the result?

No. Dates are treated as calendar days rather than instants, so the answer is the same whether you are in Auckland or Los Angeles.

Can I calculate age as of a past or future date?

Yes. Change the "age on" date to any day. This is useful for checking eligibility cut-offs, school admission dates and insurance age bands.
