Frequently Asked Questions

How many words are on a page?

Around 250 words for double-spaced 12pt Times New Roman, or 500 single-spaced. Fonts, margins and spacing change it considerably, so always check your specific requirement.

How is reading time calculated?

Word count divided by a reading speed you can adjust. The default of 225 words per minute is a common average for adult silent reading of general prose; technical material is slower.

Does it count words in other languages?

Yes. Counting uses Unicode-aware segmentation, so accented Latin, Cyrillic, Greek, Arabic and Hebrew all count correctly. Chinese, Japanese and Korean are counted by character, which is the convention for those scripts.

What is a good Flesch Reading Ease score?

60–70 is plain English suitable for most audiences. Below 30 is university-level dense prose. Above 80 reads like a children’s book. Aim for 60+ on anything meant for a general reader.
