Frequently Asked Questions

Should I include the end date?

It depends what you are counting. A hotel stay from the 3rd to the 6th is three nights but four days. Contracts and notice periods usually count both endpoints. The toggle lets you match whichever convention applies.

How are months counted?

As full calendar months. From 31 January to 28 February is counted as zero months and 28 days, because a full month has not elapsed. This is why the day total and the month total do not always line up neatly.

Does the calculator handle leap years?

Yes, including the 100 and 400 year rules — 1900 was not a leap year, 2000 was. Day counts spanning 29 February are exact.

What counts as a business day?

Monday to Friday. Public holidays vary by country and are not applied automatically, so use the business days calculator if you need to exclude specific dates.
