Typing Speed Test (WPM)
Measure your typing speed in WPM with live accuracy.
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog while the sun sets behind the old stone bridge. Typing well is less about speed than about rhythm, because a steady pace produces fewer mistakes than a burst of effort followed by a correction.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a good typing speed?
The average adult types 38 to 42 WPM. Around 60 WPM is a solid office standard, 80 WPM is fast, and professional transcribers work above 100 WPM with very high accuracy.
How is WPM calculated?
A word is defined as five characters including spaces, which is the standard used by every typing test. Gross WPM is characters typed divided by five, divided by minutes elapsed. Net WPM subtracts one word for each uncorrected error.
Does accuracy matter more than speed?
Yes, past a point. Typing at 90 WPM with 85% accuracy produces less usable text per minute than 70 WPM at 99%, because every error costs far more time to find and fix than it saved.
Can I take the test on a phone?
You can, and the scoring is identical, but thumb typing on glass usually lands between 25 and 40 WPM. Compare phone scores only against other phone scores.
