Frequently Asked Questions
How accurate is a browser stopwatch?
Elapsed time is accurate to a few milliseconds because it is measured against the system clock, not by counting animation frames. The display updates about 60 times a second, so the visible hundredths are smooth.
What is the difference between lap and split time?
Lap time is the duration of that individual segment. Split time is the total elapsed since the start. Both are shown, since runners and swimmers use each for different purposes.
Does it keep running in a background tab?
Yes. The elapsed time is computed from timestamps rather than accumulated ticks, so throttling in a background tab does not cause drift.
Are my lap times saved?
They stay in the page while the tab is open and are not sent anywhere. Export them as CSV before closing if you need to keep them.
Dates and times are calculated in your browser using its built-in IANA time zone database. Nothing you enter is transmitted.
