Frequently Asked Questions
How many days are in each month?
31 for January, March, May, July, August, October and December; 30 for April, June, September and November; and 28 for February, or 29 in a leap year.
Why does February have 28 days?
It is a leftover from the Roman calendar, which originally had ten months and a winter gap. When January and February were added, February was left short — and it absorbed the leap day for the same reason.
How many working days are in a month?
Between 20 and 23, depending on the month length and which weekday it starts on. The tool calculates it exactly, though public holidays are not deducted automatically.
Why does the weekday count matter?
Because a month can contain five Mondays but only four Fridays. That affects weekly payroll runs, shift rotas and recurring appointments, and is easy to miss until it causes a problem.
