How do I resize an image without losing quality?
Reducing size is essentially lossless as far as the eye is concerned — you are discarding pixels you cannot see anyway. Set output quality to 90% or higher, or use PNG output, and the result will look identical.
Can I make an image larger?
Yes, but upscaling invents pixels rather than recovering detail. Doubling the size looks acceptable for graphics and text; a heavily upscaled photo will look soft. Always start from the largest original you have.
What is the difference between fit, fill and stretch?
Fit scales the whole image inside the target box, possibly leaving space. Fill scales to cover the box and crops the overflow. Stretch forces the exact dimensions and distorts the image. Fit and fill preserve proportions; stretch does not.
Does resizing change the file size?
Substantially. File size scales roughly with the pixel count, so halving both dimensions typically cuts the file to around a quarter. Resizing is often more effective than compression for getting under an upload limit.
