Frequently Asked Questions
What size should an Instagram post be?
1080 × 1080 for square, 1080 × 1350 for portrait (which occupies the most feed space) and 1080 × 1920 for stories and reels. Instagram downsamples anything larger, so 1080 pixels wide is the practical maximum.
What size is a YouTube thumbnail?
1280 × 720 pixels, a 16:9 ratio, under 2 MB. Remember it is displayed as small as 210 pixels wide in search results, so keep any text large.
What size should an Open Graph image be?
1200 × 630 pixels, a ratio of roughly 1.91:1. That is the size Facebook, LinkedIn and most chat apps use for link previews, and X accepts it for summary cards with large images.
Why does my image get cropped when I upload it?
Because its aspect ratio does not match what the platform expects, so it crops to fit — usually from the centre, cutting off whatever is at the edges. Resizing to the exact ratio first puts you in control of what gets kept.
Your image is read straight from your device by the browser and processed on a canvas in this page. It is never uploaded, stored or sent anywhere — you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and the tool still works.
