How do I find an image’s dimensions?

What does the aspect ratio mean?

The proportion of width to height, reduced by the greatest common divisor. A 1920 × 1080 image is 16:9; a 1200 × 1200 image is 1:1. Matching the ratio your platform expects avoids awkward automatic cropping.

What is a megapixel?

One million pixels — width × height ÷ 1,000,000. A 4000 × 3000 photo is 12 megapixels. It is a useful shorthand for how much detail an image holds and how much memory it needs.

How does DPI relate to pixel dimensions?

DPI only matters for print. Dividing pixel dimensions by 300 gives the size in inches at typical print quality, so a 3000 × 2000 image prints well at 10 × 6.7 inches. On screen, DPI is ignored entirely.
