Which image format should I use?

WebP for almost everything on the web — it is smaller than JPEG and supports transparency. JPEG for photos that need maximum compatibility. PNG for screenshots, logos and anything needing lossless quality or crisp edges.

What happens to transparency when I convert to JPEG?

JPEG has no alpha channel, so transparent areas must be filled. The tool lets you choose the fill colour, defaulting to white. Convert to PNG or WebP instead if you need to keep transparency.

Can I convert HEIC photos from my iPhone?

Only if your browser can decode HEIC, which Safari on Apple devices can and most others cannot. If it fails, use your phone’s built-in share sheet to export as JPEG first, then convert here.

Does converting PNG to JPG reduce quality?

Yes, because JPEG is lossy. For photographs the loss is invisible at high quality settings and the file gets much smaller. For screenshots and text, JPEG produces visible artefacts — keep those as PNG or WebP.
