Frequently Asked Questions
What size is a passport photo?
It varies by country. The UK, EU and India commonly use 35 × 45 mm; the United States uses 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm). Always check the requirements published by the issuing authority — this tool resizes to whatever you specify.
What resolution do I need for printing?
300 DPI minimum, which makes a 35 × 45 mm photo 413 × 531 pixels. Many authorities ask for 600 DPI for machine-readable documents. The tool calculates the pixel dimensions for whichever DPI you select.
Does this check whether my photo meets the official rules?
No. It handles dimensions and file size only. Head positioning, background colour, expression, glasses and lighting rules are set by the issuing authority and must be checked against their guidance.
How do I get the file under a size limit?
Enter the limit in the target file size field. The tool lowers the JPEG quality until the file fits and tells you the quality it used, so you can judge whether the result is still acceptable.
Passport photos are personal documents, so nothing is uploaded. The image is cropped and resized on a canvas in your browser and downloaded straight back to your device.
