Letter bands follow the common American scale — 90 an A, 80 a B, and so on. Institutions vary, so treat the percentage as the real answer and the letter as a guide.

What does Grade Calculator do?

Calculate your current grade from weighted assignments, then find out exactly what you need on the final exam to reach the grade you want. It handles any set of weights, tells you when a target is out of reach, and converts the result to a letter grade.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate a weighted grade?

Multiply each score by its weight, add the results, then divide by the total weight. A 90% worth 20% of the course contributes 18 percentage points, while the same score worth 5% contributes only 4.5.

What grade do I need on the final exam?

It is the target grade minus what you have already banked, divided by the weight of the final. This tool does that arithmetic and tells you plainly if the number comes out above 100%, meaning the target is no longer reachable.

What if my weights do not add up to 100%?

The calculation normalises them, treating them as proportions of whatever total you entered. That is what you want mid-term, when some categories have not been graded yet.

Which letter grade scale is used?

The common American scale: 90 and above is an A, 80 a B, 70 a C, 60 a D, below that an F, with plus and minus bands at the edges. Institutions vary, so treat the letter as a guide and the percentage as the real answer.
