How do I calculate an average?

Add all the values and divide by how many there are. For 4, 8 and 15: 27 ÷ 3 = 9.

What is a weighted average?

One where some values count more than others. If an exam is 70% of a grade and coursework 30%, scores of 60 and 80 give (60 × 0.7 + 80 × 0.3) ÷ 1 = 66, not 70.

When is the mean a bad summary?
