Frequently Asked Questions
How is SIP return calculated?
Each monthly instalment compounds for the remaining months, so FV = PMT × (((1 + i)ⁿ − 1) ÷ i) × (1 + i), where i is the monthly rate and n the number of instalments. Contributions are treated as made at the start of the month.
What return rate should I assume?
That is your judgement call, not ours. Past fund performance is not a promise, market-linked returns vary widely year to year, and this calculator does not predict anything — it simply compounds whatever rate you type.
What is a step-up SIP?
One where you raise the monthly contribution by a fixed percentage each year, usually in line with a salary increase. A 10% annual step-up over 20 years can more than double the final corpus compared with a flat SIP.
Does this account for tax or expense ratios?
No. Fund expense ratios, exit loads and capital gains tax all reduce the real outcome. Subtract the expense ratio from your assumed return for a more realistic figure.
