Frequently Asked Questions
What is the future value formula?
FV = PV × (1 + r)ᵗ, where PV is the amount invested, r the annual return as a decimal and t the number of years.
Why is the inflation-adjusted figure so much lower?
Because inflation compounds too. At 6% inflation, prices double roughly every 12 years, so a nominal 8% return is only about 1.9% in real terms. The real value is what tells you whether you actually got richer.
What is CAGR?
Compound annual growth rate — the single constant rate that would take your starting value to your ending value over the period. The reverse mode calculates it from two values and a time span.
Are these projections guaranteed?
No. The calculator compounds the rate you enter; it has no view on markets. Real returns fluctuate, can be negative in any given year, and past performance never guarantees future results.
