What metadata does a PDF store?
A document information dictionary with title, author, subject, keywords and dates, plus a creator and producer field naming the software involved. Many files also carry an XMP packet with the same data in XML.
Why does the author field show a name I do not recognise?
It is usually inherited from whoever created the source document, or from the account name on the machine that generated it. It is a common accidental disclosure when sharing files publicly.
How do I remove PDF metadata?

What does the producer field tell me?
