Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert degrees to radians?

Multiply by π/180. 90° is π/2 ≈ 1.5708 radians. The tool shows both the decimal and the exact π multiple.

What is a radian?

The angle subtended when the arc length equals the radius. A full circle is 2π radians, roughly 6.283. It is the natural unit for calculus, which is why trigonometric functions in every programming language expect radians.

What are arcminutes and arcseconds?

Subdivisions of a degree: 60 arcminutes per degree, 60 arcseconds per arcminute. They are used for coordinates and in astronomy, where an arcsecond is roughly the apparent size of a coin at four kilometres.

What is a gradian?

A metric angle unit where a right angle is exactly 100 gradians and a full circle is 400. It was intended to decimalise angles and survives mainly in European surveying.
